ASBTDC Helps Long Launch Havoc Boats
November 3rd, 2016 by Megan Whitehead
With more than 30 years in the boat business, Bill Long
was ready to start building boats.
As the owner of Bill’s Marine in El Dorado, he saw the demand for aluminum boats for hunting.
Southern Arkansas University ASBTDC Center Director Megan Whitehead
helped Long with his business plan, financial projections, and overall vision. The ASBTDC was also able to provide market research that supported the idea that there was a demand for another aluminum boat manufacturer.
With a few partners and a great vision, Long began searching for a location. The City of Fordyce was so impressed with the business plan and idea that they offered incentives to locate the new manufacturing facility there.
Capitalizing on the popularity of duck hunting and the demand for a high-performance duck boat, Havoc Boats was born. The first Havoc model was designed specifically for today’s avid duck hunter, and the boat’s popularity quickly accelerated.
With over 28 full-time employees, the business has grown quickly over the past few years and has added boats designed for other sports. The fleet now includes several duck boat models, a bass boat, crappie boat, and a versatile adventure series boat.
Long has continued to work with Whitehead as the business has grown, and now his son, Jim Long, has recently taken over as CEO of Bill’s Marine and Havoc Boats.
Long said, “Without Megan’s help the company would have been a lot slower getting up and running. She was a great help, and I would recommend her to anyone starting a new business.”
