December 12th, 2017 by Rebecca Todd

Innovative Arkansas companies can explore federal funding opportunities in the Department of Defense’s Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer Broad Agency Announcement pre-releases.

Phase I proposal applications are due on Feb. 7, 2018.

Phase I projects are intended to determine the technical feasibility of proposed concepts. Phase I awards are typically between $70,000 to $150,000 with $150,000 as the maximum amount. The period of performance is generally six to 12 months with 12 months being the maximum period allowable.

Companies that win Phase I awards are eligible to compete for Phase II awards between $500,000 and $1,000,000 for 24-month performance periods. In Phase II, the awardee conducts the necessary research and development work to produce a well-defined deliverable prototype.

Through Jan. 7, applicants may directly contact topic authors by phone or email to ask technical questions about specific BAA topics.

Once the DoD begins accepting proposals on Jan. 8, proposers may submit written question through the agency’s SBIR/STTR Interactive Topic Information System where all questions and answers are posted electronically for general viewing.
