Electronic Patent Application Process Being Modernized

Deputy Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Deputy Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office Russ Sliferrecently announced a new initiative designed to update the electronic patent application process.
According to Slifer, the eCommerce Modernization (eMod) initiave will help patent applicants and examiners with improved “efficiency, communication, and patent quality.”
Development of eMod began this summer, and a pilot program is scheduled for summer 2016. Slifer explains that the “new system will be implemented in phases over the next few years” and will eventually “replace the current EFS-Web, Public PAIR, and Private Pair.”
