Superior Bathhouse Brewery

Superior Bathhouse Brewery, located in Hot Springs National Park, is the only brewery inside a national park and the world’s first to utilize thermal spring water in the brewing process.

Founder and owner Rose Schweikhart has been a client of ASBTDC since 2012, the year before her business opened in the converted 1916 Superior Bathhouse on Bathhouse Row.

“ASBDTC played a critical role in getting my business off the ground. Resources like ASBDTC are essential to a first-time business owner who needs help navigating very complicated systems,” said Schweikhart.

“I met ASBTDC’s Leah Hasley in 2012, when I was in the middle of a two-year planning phase to submit a proposal to the National Park Service to develop a brewery in a Historic Bathhouse in Hot Springs National Park. With her help, I put together a business plan, something I had never done before, and the center guided me through submitting the plan to banks to request financing,” she said.

“My work with the center qualified me to participate in the Federal Home Loan Bank grant program, which gave me an additional $25,000 in working capital. Over the past four years, the center has connected me to university students who prepared marketing ideas for me and introduced me to additional financial institutions that have loaned me additional capital to expand my operations.”

Upon the recommendation of ASBTDC, the brewery was one of 14 small businesses featured at the America’s SBDC Client Showcase and Reception for members of Congress and their staffs in February 2017.

“Turning a closed bathhouse into a brewery and restaurant was a large undertaking for a young first-time entrepreneur, but Rose had the vision and the determination. Our center at Henderson State University has worked hand-in-hand with her every step of the way, and it’s wonderful to see her business flourishing,” said Laura Fine, ASBTDC state director. “Rose is a great ambassador for Arkansas tourism and for our program.”
