Reggie’s Lock & Key

Binns owns and operates Reggie’s Lock & Key. The full-time paramedic doubles as a full-time locksmith, providing quality locksmith services to Monticello and surrounding areas. Binns became interested in the locksmith trade while working at a towing company and observing locksmiths on the job. After working part-time for a locksmith business that eventually closed, he decided to start Reggie’s Lock & Key.
Looking for general business guidance, Binns visited the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center at the University of Arkansas at Monticello just after starting his business. He has worked closely with the center director, Lindsay Henry, ever since.
Comfortable managing the shop’s daily operations on his own, Binns utilizes the free consulting services of the UAM SBTDC for assistance with long-term decisions and less-familiar topics. Henry has assisted Binns with marketing strategies, government contracting registration, financial management tools, business plan development, business growth strategies and loan proposals.
In a year and a half, Reggie’s Lock & Key doubled its business through marketing, customer referrals and expanded offerings. The business offers a variety of commercial, residential, and automotive services, including key cutting, 24-hour unlock services, safe sales and repair, transponder key cutting and programming, and lock installations. In 2012, Binns purchased a van for making service calls throughout southeast Arkansas, expanding his service area.
“The UAM SBTDC is helping me turn my small business into my long-term goal. I know where I want my business to be in five years, and the assistance in planning how to get it there has been priceless. I would recommend the UAM SBTDC services to any small business owner,” said Binns.
