Brian and Cora Wilson’s martial arts academy and fitness studio was about to outgrow its space when they were referred to the Arkansas Tech University ASBTDC by their lender.
To keep up with demand, Forca Martial Arts & Fitness needed a larger facility for its Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, fitness kickboxing, and other classes.
Forca offers self-defense and fitness system classes for different ages and different experience levels. “We are more than a place to work out. Forca is family,” said Cora.
Working with their ASBTDC business consultant, Ronda Hawkins, the Wilsons received assistance writing a business plan and fine-tuning the financial projections needed to apply for a loan.
Hawkins also supplied market research to help the couple assess their new location and give them insight into the potential market for their classes.
“One of the most helpful services I received was having someone review my financials before we applied for our loan,” Cora said. “Getting everything in order really helped when it was time to work on projections and our business plan. I would have been overwhelmed and lost without this help.”
Brian and Cora operate the business together.
He holds a black belt in MMA in Inferno Combat Systems and is a black belt in both Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Judo. She is a two-time, undefeated amateur world kickboxing champion and holds the ranks of purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, black belt MMA in the Inferno Combat Systems, and brown belt in Judo.
Forca Martial Arts & Fitness moved into a new 4,000-sq.-ft. facility located at 301 Reasoner Lane in Russellville on March 2.
“With this new location, we are able to offer more fitness options and different types of classes such as Zumba and hot yoga,” she said.
Although social distancing has required the gym to temporarily stop in-person training, the lessons continue through virtual contact with members and recorded videos for everyone on their YouTube channel.
