Couple Starts Ice Cream Business
The Geedunk LLC opened for business on July 4, 2019.
Throughout the process from idea to ice cream stand, owners Katalin and Deewayne Marlowe worked with the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center at Arkansas Tech University.
After Katalin attended the center’s “Starting a Business in Arkansas” seminar in March, the Marlowes began meeting with Business Consulant Ronda Hawkins.
“The most helpful service we received was having someone to walk us through the startup process,” the couple said. “We were given step-by-step instructions, and our questions were answered along the way. Our consultant helped us map out the steps and followed up with us to work through our plan. This sped up the startup process, which helped us meet our July 4th startup goal.”
The Marlowes moved to Arkansas from Ohio, where Deewayne’s father owned an ice cream shop which sold treats using Flavor Burst® syrups. The couple wanted to make that same “soft serve with a twist” and other desserts available to Russellville-area residents.
As a former U.S. Navy family, the couple named the business after the term for the snack bar on a Navy ship.
