Research-based small businesses are encouraged to explore funding opportunities within the Department of Energy’s open Small Business Innovation Research/Small Business Technology Transfer Phase I funding opportunity announcement (FOA).
The agency seeks to ensure America’s security and prosperity by addressing its energy, environmental and nuclear challenges through transformative science and technology solutions. The deadline to submit letters of interest (a requirement) is Jan. 6. The application submission deadline is Feb. 24.

- Office of Cyber Security, Energy Security, and Emergency Response
- Office of Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation
- Office of Electricity
- Office of Environmental Management
- Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy
- Office of Fossil Energy
- Office of Fusion Energy Sciences
- Office of High Energy Physics
- Office of Nuclear Energy

Those who are applying for a SBIR/STTR grant for the first time may get assistance with completing Phase I applications through DOE’s Phase 0 assistance program, in addition to state resource providers.
