When Deysi and David Perez of Mabelvale decided to start their own construction business, they knew it wouldn’t be an easy road. With more than five years of industry experience, David had worked hard on various projects, but the dream of having his own company was always present.
For them, starting a business not only meant financial independence, but the possibility of ensuring a stable future for their children and building a legacy that would transcend generations.
They launched their business in 2022, but like many entrepreneurs, they faced challenges from the beginning.
“I didn’t have much knowledge about how to register the company, much less how to handle financial organization and accounting,” Deysi said.
Fortunately, they found the support they needed in the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and their ASBTDC consultant, Tania Martínez Bandak.

Sound Structure, Processes Put Company on Solid Footing
With Tania’s guidance, Deysi and David learned how to formalize their company correctly and optimize their administrative and financial processes.
“Tania helped us understand the importance of proper financial management, organize our accounting, and structure our company efficiently. Thanks to this, we were able to access capital and expand our operations,” explains Deysi.
In September 2024, they obtained financing through First Security Bank and used the proceeds to purchase equipment and property for the business.
In addition to support in the financial management area, Tania and ASBTDC’s market research team helped Flintstones Construction better understand its competition and develop strategies to differentiate itself in the market.
“They taught us to identify our competitive advantages, and with this, we have been able to more easily detect innovative opportunities within the construction industry,” said David.
Knowledge, Support Lead to Growth
This strategic knowledge has been key to their growth. Today, Flintstones Construction has its own facility and specialized machinery that allows the company to offer a greater variety of services. As a result, they have expanded their reach in the market and strengthened their presence in the single-family-home building and remodeling industry in Little Rock and the surrounding area.
One of the aspects that they value most about ASBTDC is receiving advice in Spanish. “Having bilingual consultants is a great asset, not only for us, but for the entire Latino community in Little Rock,” said Deysi.
Thanks to the support it received, Flintstones Construction has become a clear example of how business education and access to resources can transform a dream into a solid and successful company.
The Perezes are now working with ASBTDC on a second business. The couple is pursuing a new round of financing, with plans to purchase an auto body paint shop.
Deysi and David encourage other entrepreneurs to seek support and advice to grow their businesses. “If you have an idea, pursue it. Approach supportive people and take advantage of the resources available to you. We know that, with effort, learning and the right guidance, it is possible to turn a dream into a reality,” she said.
