Robert Mitchell wanted to grow his West Memphis business. So, it felt like fate when he received an envelope stuffed with a flyer from the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center.
The flyer was an advertisement for the Smart Growth Accelerator, a four-session ASBTDC program designed to help small businesses in Craighead, Mississippi, and Crittenden counties expand.
Mitchell participated in the spring 2021 virtual accelerator. Some of the topics covered were business planning, marketing strategy, cash flow, and funding.
“My goal is to franchise,” Robert said. “I want to bring Mitchell’s Breakfast Burritos to hungry commuters all over the U.S., so they can wake up hungry and face the day happy.”
The made-to-order breakfast burritos are big in size and big on flavor. Burrito choices include Kay’s 3-Alarm, Karen’s Maple Delight, Sonja’s Black Bean, and Bernadine’s Shrimp and Avocado.
The restaurant also offers a selection of wraps, salads, and fried shrimp and chicken with seasoned fries. All orders are made to go.
By participating in the Smart Growth Accelerator led by the Arkansas State University ASBTDC, Mitchell was able to chart his strategic goals so that he now knows when, what, and who they involve.
The process makes him feel motivated about the future, not stressed.
“With the Strategic Growth Plan, I was able to think this thing through beyond just my current problems of customer growth,” he said. “I love that I am now better equipped to make Mitchell’s a success.”
Robert’s plan is to open two more locations and then begin to franchise. With the help of ASBTDC, he’s well on his way!
