With an eye for fashion, Holly Donaldson knew Monticello needed an affordable option for women’s clothing. Her new business, Skylyne Boutique, opened on July 11.
When Donaldson decided to pursue her dream, she took a friend’s advice and contacted the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center at the University of Arkansas at Monticello.
Stephanie Harton, center director, provided advice on how to start a business along with market research. The research confirmed a demand for such a business in the area.
Skylyne Boutique sells women’s fashions in a wide range of sizes, plus accessories. They are neatly displayed throughout the store and on the shop’s Instagram page.
“I had a vision of what the store would look like, but I had no idea on how to get Skylyne set up properly. Stephanie was very helpful in this process, and I would recommend others use the free services at the ASBTDC as well,” said Donaldson.
Donaldson named the business for her children, combining the names of her daughter Skylar and stepdaughter Carolyne. The boutique is located at 1920 Hwy. 425, Suite 2, in Monticello.
